Diary of a Fired DJ - A Real Radio Unemployment Story

You Just Can't Get Good Help These Days....Part II

Look at an email I received in response to yesterday's diary entry:

Hey Corey...

Hope you can manage to hold on. Things always manage to work themselves out. Please give my very best wishes to your wife: There is no harder job on earth than being a "radio spouse", and if you've got one that'll put up with everything this business can throw at you, you've got a definate keeper. God Bless her.

Re: The No-repeat sitch:

Back in '83-'84, KKHR/LA had a similar promotion, but bigger: "We guarantee to play no fewer than 10 records in a row. If we do, we'll pay you $10 Thousand Bucks! That's right, ten in a row or ten thousand dollars..." (Can you see the express train comin' down THIS track...?)

I was doing Saturday nights at the time... and I screwed up. There are no words to describe the panic, fear, and distress that overcame during the hour between when I played a spot too early, and when I finally reaced my PD...

(speaking of prayer...) God Bless him for being understanding enough to forgive my mistake. As it turned out, there wasn't a single member of the airstaff who hadn't been petrified at doing something similar. Which of course, makes me question the value of having any promotion that so freaks out your airstaff that they can barely have any fun...

Anyway, just wanted you to know that no matter how big a mistake you've made... there's always someone in a leakier boat.

All Good Things,
