Diary of a Fired DJ - A Real Radio Unemployment Story

Day #31 - 11/15/97 - 5:59PM

I'm not sure what's been tougher for my wife: worrying about me when I'm unemployed or following me from city-to-city when I AM employed. Meet my wife, Chris. The consummate Radio Wife who knows as much about this business as me, has picked up and moved more times than she bargained for, has mothered two fine boys who don't seem the worse for any of it yet and besides all that.....she's a teacher.

If you were to compare what we both do for a living, I might be inclined to dismiss my occupation as somewhat trivial next to the impact she has on the world. I may talk to thousands of people on a daily basis, but it's my wife who probably makes more of a difference talking one-on-one. Take this note one of her students wrote her the other day. The little girl's mother passed away a year ago.

"Dear Mrs. Deitz,

......I think you are a wonderful teacher. Since you have been teaching me, I have everything right on homework and at home and some class work. You are like my real mom. Thanks a lot!!!"

That's my wife, Chris. My girlfriend, my friend. This is the lady who's followed me for almost 19 years around the country as I've moved from job to job. This is the lady who's picked up my pieces a few times and put me back together, the lady who never let's me not believe in myself. I want you to meet my wife, Chris. Our anniversary is Tuesday.Chris Deitz

I can't afford to buy her much this year because we're watching the money right now. But, it doesn't cost a penny to tell the world I love my wife.

Happy Anniversary, Darling.....
