Diary of a Fired DJ - A Real Radio Unemployment Story

Day #59 - 12/12/97 - 11:50PM

Today I called, Tony Florentino, the Program Director of Lite 98 here in Richmond and told him I was back in town and available once again for some part-time and fill-in work. He was glad to hear from me and said he'd be able to use me in the coming weeks.

I also figured out two things in Visual Basic 5.0 that were making me nuts. (I'm working on a new software application called WaveKick for .wav file playback in a studio situation.)

My wife MADE me take her out to dinner. Is it just me or do I sometimes sense she isn't fully grasping our situation:

"I'M UNEMPLOYED HONEY! FORGET THE T-BONE STEAK. TRY SPAM!"

We're going to put up our Christmas Tree tomorrow. In honor of that, here are...

The Top 5 Changes Unemployment Has Made to My Christmas Tree:

5. Remember that green meat in the fridge? It looks GREAT hanging on a branch!

4. Saving money by not running electric lights. Made kids paint fake bulbs on branches with flourescent markers an told them we could only look at the tree was the lights were off!

3. No new decorations this year but that "Star Trek" ornament geeky friend gave me some years ago - you know, the one which incessantly says "Phasers on Merry" - all of a sudden looks good!

2. Saved money by not buying tree holder. Drilled hole in floor for tree to stand in. Advantage: now have a "Christmas Stump" coming out of ceiling in basement! Ho Ho!

1. No angel on top this year. Forcing cat to sit there very still
