Diary of a Fired DJ - A Real Radio Unemployment Story

Day #84 - 1/6/98 - 5:15 PM

Hey, that's us!

I was borderline depressed today. Actually, maybe it was more anxiety than depression. I'm not sure which and I'm sure it doesn't matter. Neither feeling is much fun! I've been pretty good about keeping my chin up, but some days are NOT diamonds. Nothing in particular bad happened today...just nothing good. Sometimes, you have days where you don't seem to exist. Sound funny? When you're working hard on a morning show, you're busy prepping, phoning, doing face-time, meetings and all that. When you're on the beach, you're....uh....sitting. Well, not JUST sitting but sitting....IN FRONT OF A TV. Yeah! That's the ticket! And, and, and...you're not just SITTING IN FRONT OF A TV but you have CHEESE PUFFS IN A BOWL next to you. Yeah, yeah....

Okay. You're just sitting.

Hey, what am I doing???? That's it: no pity party for me! I still believe I'm a great talent. My partner, Jay, is a great talent. We have a track record. Think of all the great talents that have been fired from jobs in radio. We're in damn good company!

It's just a matter of time.
