Hi Corey,

I've been meaning to write to you ever since I started reading your diary. I've been on the beach about two weeks less than you. This is the first time since 1984 that I've been out of work. It freaked me out, to say the least. But after reading your experiences, ie, MY experiences, I always felt better. It makes it a little easier when you realize you're not the only one to whom the arrival of the mailman is one of the high points of the day. I understand all too well the frustrations of sending out tapes and not having the phone ring. Like I heard on Northern Exposure ( M-F noon, A&E) It's not a dog eat dog world; it's a dog doesn't return dog's phone call world!

And I think being as experienced as we are ( I'm going on 25 years of rock radio)makes it harder to find another job. I mean, we actually expect to get a living wage! ( I'm even thinking seriously about getting into radio sales.. may the Lord have mercy on my soul) I'm like the typical battered wife. Radio beats me up and I come back for more.. AH... love.. what can you do??? ANYWAY, what I'm trying to say is.. you have made this terribly lonely experience not as lonely.. ( My husband loved the entry dedicated to your wife. He ALSO knows as much about radio as I do). I hope you get what you deserve and soon but I sure have killed a lot of time playing your OJ and Clinton games! At least I finally have the time to enter my CD/record library into that album tracker program. Here's to getting up again at 0 dark:30 as soon as possible!

Hello Corey,

According to one book I'm reading, it takes two to three months to get a job once the hiring person gets your resume and it takes an average of 500 hundred resumes to get an interview! It goes on to say that your rejection rate is 99%. I've been out of work seven weeks and have only sent out 99 tapes and resumes and followup letters. My God I hope I don't have to produce another 401 just to aquire an interview!

This past weekend I took the wife to Houston and we celebrated our 10th anniversary at Ruth Chris Steak House, on top of that we stayed at a Marriott and I bought her a ring, all with money I don't have, but, you gotta do that despite the fact your out of work.

Your "Diary Of A Fired D.J." has become a daily inspiration for me. Don't stop, keep it up!

Loving reading your diary Corey, only sorry the subject has to be what it is. Know what it feels like, lost my last full-time on-air gig back in '93, and because I WON'T move towns, I ain't been offered a replacement gig. Not that I'm overly concerned in that, as long as I get my weekly radio hit (even as a panel operator at the local Sport station) then I'm okay. Just remember (I guess) that at least you're still "in" the industry, albeit part-time, and as long as you're there, they won't forget you. I can tell you this... 5 years down the track, they don't remember me. (ah well)

Good luck

Hi Corey!

It's me again..a former listener of yours here in Cleveland. I just read your latest entry in THE Diary and wanted to let you know that I am not surprised that WLTF dropped in the ratings. Everybody that I know that listened to that station does NOT listen to it anymore. As soon as the 3 of you were fired and we figured out that the station had changed so drastically (and NOT for the better) we changed our radio dials. As I've told you before, my daughter and I have not had near as much fun and entertainment on our morning drive to work since the 3 of you left town :( . I wish a miracle would happen and the 3 of you would come back!!!!

At any rate, I also wanted to let you know that my husband said he heard that JACOR is now in negotiations to purchase WMMS. All I know is that WMMS has been a very popular radio station since before I was a teenager and if JACOR does take over I'm sure that they too will drop in their ratings. It will be interesting to see what happens. I can only pray that JACOR does not buy EVERY radio station in the city or the people of Cleveland will have NOTHING to listen to!

Take care, and good luck with your job hunting. I think you are doing the right thing by waiting until you find a market that will hire both you AND Jay. The two of you make a super team and it would be a shame to see you working separately. If you get a chance let us know how Jay and Desiray are doing. It's been fun to follow your daily life thru your Diary and I'm sure other former listeners have enjoyed it as much as I.

Corey:

Hang in there man... I've been where you are... I was out of work for 18 months once. I managed to string enough part-time and freelance work together to keep bread on the table.. it was tough, but it can be done. The sadly ironic thing is that all too often, when the full-time work returns, the monetary rewards are not much more than your succession of part-time gigs. But that is "radio", and we knew it when we got into the business. We don't do it for the money, we do it because we love it. And it is full of frustation, poverty and headaches and we hate it while we love it. I figure, if worse comes to worse, we DJ's would make a month of "Jerry Springer" Shows... and beleive me there are some former bosses I'd like to take a swing at.

Good Luck and Keep Smiling (because the cream ALWAYS rises)

From: "scott cox" <scottc@mvp.net>

Good Morning,

I'm a "scum-sucking" program director working on Sunday morning because I was dumb enough to hire college students a couple of months before the Holidays, and believed them when they said they would be here for Christmas & New Years!!

I had been to your site before, but had never checked out the diary. This morning I went through the whole thing.(Sunday morning countdowns allow me to get more done in this 6 hours, than I usually get done in a week.)

It's very interesting to me to read your story. I've been so fortunate in doing this for 13 or so years. The last 10 of them have been with a group that is growing instead of selling (for now), up to 26 stations now I think. I got in when there were just 2.

Reading your diary, it almost seems so foreign to me. I went to a convention earlier this year, and was amazed at all of the nervous people, wondering about their jobs. People who had 3 different owners in 2 weeks. All of this was going on in my industry, and I thought it was just in the "Majors"!

I'm now the group pd for 6 stations in my market. We've got a state of the art building going up. Why weren't people as excited as I was about the future? The convention and articles and journals like yours, help me to understand why.

It's easy for me to be a proponent of consolidation (and I am). I still feel like the cream is going to rise to the top. There will always be a need for talented funny people. It's with this thought in mind that I wish you and your partner and your families the best. Something will come along for you guys. As easy as it is for me to say, and as sick as you probably are of hearing it, GOOD LUCK & KEEP PLUGGING!!

Subject: wow. your journal is deep...

Date: Fri, 2 Jan 1998 04:01:55 EST From: Wmstwn NJ

I'm sure that I'm not supposed to read that whole journal in one day, but that's what I just did. I sat down for about an hour and I read the whole thing. You'll probably be surprised to hear that it's had a strange effect on me:

I have been running from radio (the only thing I've ever passionately wanted to do) for quite some time after watching so many stations (good stations; solid ratings) get sold and flipped.

I have limited (very limited) experience so I decided to just give it up. I have kept up with it of course through all my radio friends, newspapers, and online information. I'm a big radio-geek-head.

Your journal has made me think twice about this. Even if I keep my stinky little customer service gigs and wind up at some little Jersey shore 3,000-watter doing weekend overnights or something, I'll still be doing what I love.

I don't know why your journal has inspired me this way, but it has. Possibly because I can see from reading it that we have the same sense of humor and I am just wasting it.

People are always telling me that I should be a comedian. "Take it on the road," they tell me. It takes a few minutes before I realize that they're actually telling me to get out of their house. (An example of my brilliance, thank you very much.)

Anyway, I'm gonna keep reading and I wish you the best of luck. The Real Audio clips sounded great, so I'm sure you'll land somewhere soon. You know how fall and the holidays are in radio.

I snuck into MMC & read a posting about your diary.

I got blown out on my late father's birthday (!) this year (9/29) for complaining about having to do free stage announcements at the local casino for 4 hours of an evening and being expected to be conscious the next morning for a show after getting home at 1:30am. Ah well. A Californian working for Texans in Indiana, one comes to expect unusual behavior.

I clicked on your nickel banner like a burning spastic. You should be able to afford to take care of some nice stuff for Christmas.

I started a business that saw $10,155 in expenses in 1997 and made exactly $636. Yes, my accountant will DIE laughing at this.

Happy New Year, Corey!

I'll link your page to my little RadioDiner. We'll see what happens.

Hey Corey,

I don't know if you remember me writing you a while back.....I grew up listening to you on Q-94....we got fired from our radio jobs at about the same time and I've been keeping up with your story. I'm glad you followed your gut and didn't take the job without Jay. I was so worried about my family that I almost took a less than desirable job just to make some decent money, but I held out and finally got a great job in Denver. I know that really doesn't mean jack shit to you, but I guess what I'm trying to say is...hold out for the good stuff, you guys are great together and someone will recognize that when searching for their next morning team.

I listened to your to your show from the first day you were on the air at WLTF. At first I didn't care to much for the show but the more I listened the more I liked the show. I was very disappointed when I found out that the Cory, Jay and Desiray show was no longer on the air. Listening to the radio on the way to work each morning is not the same. I refuse to listen to 106.5 since then. I wish you all the luck landing a new job. I now listen to Trapper Jack on WDOK but it's not quite the same. From what I hear there are a lot of listeners of you morning show changing stations because the new shows are very dull and boring.

Good luck and best wishes to you and your family!

Hi Corey!

Just wanted to let you know that my daughter Devvyn and I STILL miss you, Jay, and Desiray here in Cleveland. Our morning ride to work is just not the same. We've settled on WDOK 102.1 with Trapper Jack, and although we have had a few giggles we just haven't had the good hearty laughs that we enjoyed with the 3 of you!

I've been keeping up with your Diary and want you to know that I've enjoyed reading all of it. I think you made the right decision about not taking that job without Jay. The two of you are great team and some lucky market will snatch the two of you up soon, I'm sure. Devvyn and I secretly hope that WLTF comes to their senses and realizes how much of a market they lost when they got rid of the 3 of you. It would be great if they "re-hired" you! Although I'm not sure you guys would even think about taking the job ... and I can't really blame you.

I hope that you and your family have a wonderful Holiday season together. Keep up the good work with your Diary! Enjoy the following "funny". Somebody at work gave it to me this morning and I thought you might enjoy it. Who knows..maybe someday soon you could use some of it on "your" show!

Hi Corey. What a coincidence! I happened upon your Diary and read today's (Dec. 8) entry recapping your career in radio. It was nice of you to mention me in reference to you and I saving thousands of lives by broadcasting 24 hours on WRFD during the Blizzard of '78. Do you remember if they "sold" that emergency coverage we did? :-)

Sorry to hear about the WLTF situation and your recent near-gig. I've been "off the air" two years ago the day before this past Thanksgiving. That was one of the more interesting firings of my 25 year radio career. Going home the day before Thanksgiving and having to tell my wife and three kids that I was fired. Funny thing is I haven't gotten back up on the horse's ass yet after having been thrown off. The "related talent work" that I've done since then certainly isn't as personally fulfilling or lucrative as the radio work; but I'm finding it hard to trust. Maybe that comes with age or something.

Enjoy the time with the family. Like in the Master Card commercial; it's priceless. I, on the other hand, have had tons of time with the family the last two years. But I must admit that, as beaten up as I got in radio, I still miss those "priceless" times, such as you and I saving "hundreds" of lives in the Blizzard of '78. Ok, so we only saved a couple! All right, all right. I admit it. Maybe we actually contributed to a couple deaths, but that's not my point!

The point is to "live each day as if it were your last, and one of these days you'll be right". Love to Chris and the kids. Has she recovered yet from hearing about your possible gig out West?

My best,

The Air Personality formerly known as Bill Stewart

Just ran across your diary and most excellent Web site while net surfing. Thank you for sharing something all of us radio folk can identify with. I lost my gig when Chancellor bought one of the Group W stations. The guy who fired me lost his job a couple years later in the Chancellor-Evergreen merger. And so it goes. The thing is, radio is just so damn special we keep putting up with the abuse. You sound like a talented jock and a caring husband and father. I was especially moved by your willingness to say no to a gig because it didn't feel right and it didn't include your old partner. I encourage you to use this time as you seem to be using it, for your family and for personal growth. But don't get me wrong, being fired still sucks!

1. Wish you all the luck in the world 2. Sing your praises to all who I know are looking for real talent 3. Keep up with the diary and 4. Give you my home phone in case there's anything I can do to help. (XXX)XXX-XXXX

Corey,

Hi. Mark Haney here from the Stan & Haney show on WRXK-FM 96 K-ROCK in Ft. Myers / Naples, Fl. I have visited your site often but have never e-mailed you.

I want to thank you for the service you provide to all broadcasters VIA Radio Earth. My condolences on the loss of your job. As you have alluded to in your diary, its not just the loss of your job, its the loss of "THE SHOW". Anybody that makes it in this business is always thinking, always working on "THE SHOW". Although its been a while since I've been out of work, I shudder to think about what the hell I would do with myself waiting for the next gig. Friends and family tend to support us for a while and then the mood changes as the time goes by. I do remember clearly the last time that I was out of a job. People sometimes don't understand that "the waiting game" is a big part of it. People that don't understand the business wonder why you're not out there trying to get some "honest work" instead of wasting time making and mailing tapes. Its always tough to be out of work, but as we all know its a hazard of the profession.

You have my respect and admiration for the way you have taken care of your family. Although I'm sure it was tough to be away from them for so long, your decision to maintain a stable life for your kids in Virginia has certainly paid off.

Your diary has certainly struck a chord among many, judging from the response. We've all been there and most likely will be there again at some point. Although we are all competitive people, its things like your diary that make us realize that we are all really on the same team. And at the current rate of consolidation among broadcast groups that may be more true than I intended!

Take care,

Mark Haney

Hi Corey,

Just a quick note of both support and admiration.

Having been in radio for longer than I care to admit and spending plenty of time on the Beach, I can feel for your situation. Your Diary has been a wonderful insight into the plight many in this business face (sadly more and more these days) and how agonizing the situation is...especially when you bust your butt and get rewarded with a ticket out the door. The most painful part is that there is such little respect for the individual or the talent...change just for the sake of change.

Recently, several good friends of mine here have faced the same situation due to ownership changes and many fear that '98 will hold just more "consolidation" that will mean less opportunities. Those who are hanging in are doing more and lucky just to be making the same amount. Now I see of benefit cuts coming, thus they'll be getting less.

I'm with Zecom Communications in Chicago; and operate a website specializing in this market at http://www.zecom.com/zecom/crow. With your permission, I'd like to link both your site and the diary to ours so others can share your situation and see your very well-done site. I've been a regular visitor for nearly 2 years and have always found your site very useful and entertaining.

Your diary should be must reading for any prospective broadcaster, and I've recommended it to many of the college and high school "broadcasters" who visit our site. Sadly, many get stars in their eyes only to have them used and abused, then blown out the door. I hear the words of a GM I was a PD for who said "Bring 'Em In...Use 'Em...Burn 'Em Out...Get New Ones". Forunately, I long parted company with that station and it's burned out so many good talents it went onto the bird...bad news is, the GM is still in charge (with far less revenues than when I was there).

Good luck with your search and count on our support in your endeavor.

Hey Corey! I've been following your diary for a week or so now, and finally had the urge to write. (And the time, mind you).

I wish you nothing but the best - It sounds like you've got things in order and you're going to do fine. I'm 20 yrs. old and I've been at WMIL/WOKY in Milwaukee, WI for the last 5 years. I'm struggling to find a full-time on-air job in radio. I'm currently the creative copywriter and weekend personality. I've only done part-time on-air and I think a lot of PD's are afraid to give me that first shot at Full Time radio. I know i'd rock - my phones are solid, prep is excellent and my delivery is good. We all have our gripes, don't we? :)

But your aircheck sounds great, your resume is packed and you have a great wit. You'll do fine! Radio's rather tight now - but just wait until things unravel after the fall book. You'll be getting calls like crazy!!!

God Speed to you my friend, I wish you nothing but the best! (with a ton of money thrown in too)

Mr. Deitz, I love what you have done! Not only are you a talented radio personality from what I gather, you are also pretty handy on the P.C. too. Great web site. I'm a d.j. in training -- that is I work as a morning show host weekdays and I also host an Urban show on Thursday nights. I'm in the Navy and I am stationed on the Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. We have a radio station which we use to put out command information sprinkled with tunes. I have been wondering what I will do career wise when I decide to leave the U.S. Canoe Club. Your diary and the responses from the out of work D.J.s have been food for thought.

I just listened to your aircheck. Loved it! I'm going to tape it and listen to it on my way to work in the morning. There is nothing worthwhile on the radio any more. I'm really scared. With JACOR buying all the radio stations in Cleveland, all the DJ's will be out of jobs. Good bye Lanigan! Hello Howard!

I really miss listening to you. Keep the faith! You'll be back in the saddle again. We in Cleveland airwaves are the losers. Thanks for three good years!

Your Diary is wonderful. I hope you keep writing to us...

Corey:

Thank you for sharing this experience with all of us. I lost my gig when a bigger broadcasting company bought up the biggest stations (mine included) in my medium-sized market, back in July.

I discovered a funny thing about unemployment (here in California, at least). If you pursue any freelance work, it's considered "self-employment" and if it takes up four or more hours a week (not 40... just 4!), they take your benefits away, because it "could interfere with your ability to obtain a full-time job." However... PART-TIME employment is okay. Five, ten, 30 hours a week is OKAY. Sure, they take that money out of your check, so you never get ahead, unless you get a full-time job. But it's OKAY to work a lot of hours PART-TIME, making NO EXTRA MONEY but NOT okay to do FREELANCE WORK, working FEWER HOURS making MORE MONEY than you would doing PART-TIME work.

Just thought I'd share, in case you were thinking of pursuing the forbidden "self-employment" route to making additional money.

Best wishes! -Joyce Jefferson

Hi Corey,

I read in the radio star during the week that your "gig" was pulled out from under you.

Even in Australia we've heard of you and your reputation preceeds you! Won't be long and you'll be back behind the mike, only this time I hope you get more money to do it and you show up these short sighted idiots that run radio stations!

We've have a whole bunch of nut cases here in Australia paying absolutely ridiculous money for stations and then put extreme pressure on the staff to bring a return on investment so they can sell it for a HIGHER price!

On the good side my station, 2GO, is a monster (I'm the PD) and my breaky crew is the highest rated breakfast show in Australia at 33% of the market.

Sorry to go on........just wanted to wish you all the best getting a better job in this fickle crazy industry we love so much. If you get time, drop us an email and tell us what you're up to.

Hi Corey,

I am sorry to hear about the three of you getting fired. You guys made my morning commute to work enjoyable and quick. I always station surfed during commercials but waited for you to start talking again. I was the person who faxed you the words to the "Da, Da, Da" song. I would like to know where you end up and hope that it would be with Jay and Desiree. I feel especially sorry for Desiree as she was the one you and Jay hand picked. I hope she doesn't end up waitressing again. I'm sure she now has the knowledge to make it in this industry. At least she knows how easily a station can screw you. I am interested in sending an e-mail message to Jay if you could supply me with his e-mail address.

I just want you to know that I have listened to WLTF for ten years. These last two went to quick. I refuse to put my radio dial on that station any longer, because your firing hits home as well as the hearts of your listeners. I called WLTF when I started hearing Mix 106 and asked where you were. That's the way I found out about you guys getting canned or as I was told, "they are no longer with the station".

I'm sure you have heard from many people, but I'm glad that I could at least contact you still. The day I found out that you were gone, I called my wife with the news. She knew I was upset as I always talked about you guys since her commute to work was quicker she did not have the time to hear you three. I even won a few times through you guys.

Well I know you are busy, Please write back with Jay's e-mail address.

Take care, hope to hear from you soon. Have fun with your family.

Corey!

Howdy! Sorry to hear about you getting the "big boot", but from one unemployed morning guy to another, I know what you're going through.

Actually we apparantly had pretty much the same situation at "The BUZZ" in NY as you did in Cleveland.

They loved the tapes, loved the show...couldn't stop talking about how funny it was, etc. The GM tells us he "finally enjoys listening to his radio station". People drop by the studio to say how nice it is "to finally have a *real* morning show", etc, etc, etc.

This goes on for about 3 months. First book comes out...and guess what? We're NOT NUMBER ONE! We DIDN'T BEAT HOWARD!

OH MY GOD! SOMETHING MUST BE WRONG!!

Let's start changing things!

-Forget the fact that we actually uptrended with ZERO promotion.

-Forget the fact that the response on the phones is white hot.

-Forget the fact that the station was in the toilet, we completely changed the format, and we've only given this 3 months.

Anyway, bottom line for us is, we knew it was coming too. The last 3 months or so they had us playing 12 records an hour and not talking more than 30 seconds in a break. You can bet *that* made for compelling "Howard-beating" morning radio <g>.

Anyway, if I hear of anything, I'll let you know. BTW, I don't know what Evergreen/Chancellor is gonna be doing with what *was* the BUZZ here in NY (they're the new owners), but they'll probably be looking for a morning show.

Corey,

I don't know you.. never heard you, BUT as we say... Been there..Done That.

I've been in T.V. 20 years... made the jump from news to entertainment 4 years ago after being fired at WXIA in Atlanta.

I was on the beach 3 months, then took my current job as Co-Host of an entertainment show ''Louisville Tonight Live'' (WHAS/ABC).

Sounds like you made a wise move, not moving your family. The reason I'm writing is to let you know.. 1) Not trashing your former management is a GOOD move. I could have.. and many said I should have, trashed my old bosses (After being fired I did radio talk fill-in on WGST in Atlanta). Taking the high road paid off, I really think there's an underground management network that can blackball you (OK maybe I'm paranoid!). I even took a morning 1 hour news reading job on a small am station to keep off the unemployment lines. 2) When the job offers start coming ... be careful! I had 3.. took this one.. but after 4 years I'm very tired of Louisville (I'm from N.Y.C.). My best job was in news..in Orlando..my parents have a house there and so do my in-laws.. but it's tough finding a job back there. So take your time.. don't jump at the first offer you get...as we both found out.. moving to a bigger market may not always be a smart move! (though I'd like to work in N.Y.C. some day.

Chuck Nance here. Although I (like everyone) hates to see what happened to you-happen (it's happened to me too, once), I think this could be the best thing EVER for your career.

Wait, before you think I'm wacko, hear me out. When I was on the beach 4 years ago-the longest 3 months in radio history-it gave me some time to sit back, think about my show, where I wanted it to go, what I wanted to do, etc. I listened to people I admired in the biz, sat in on a couple of shows for friends in major markets, basically re-dedicated myself while re-discovering why I love this business so much.

Right now. Enjoy the solace of the country. Enjoy the solace of your family. And in a week or so, get with Jay and plot your next "last" move.

Good luck and thanks for all you've done for me ("There once was a night jock in Waco with a 286 and Airware").

Congrats on bustin' loose from hell... Thanks for a great site! I have found it very useful in my own search for a gig. The jobs page especially. It's great to just scroll down the page and check out all the vaious job sites.

I've been enjoying the diary, and I think your article about not controlling or defining personality hits the target exactly. Especially the part about non-performers becoming programmers. I have never done mornings, but my approach has always been personality based. It's just music intensive (middays / afternoons), because Rock & Roll is my passion. As far as length of time on the beach is concerned, don't be alarmed, but you have 553 days to go to match my current total. I'll be damned if I can figure it out. Especially after all the major market "talent" I have heard in the last year and a half that should really be buying one way tickets back to broadcasting school.... I've been reading your compelling diary of late, because I am in the same beached boat. My partner and I are two months into our "3-month" stint as unemployed talk hosts, and LA is one expensive place to have no pay. At least it'll be a sunny and warm time while we wait for the stability of the fall book and holiday season to dissolve into a chaotic bloodbath of post-holiday firings and new openings. Let's face it...Cleveland sucks. You're better off waiting it out in Richmond where it's more temperate and bucolic, for what will be the inevitable call for a solid AC morning show with a track record. Hi Corey,
Though you do not know me, I had been a loyal listener to your morning show in Cleveland until last Friday morning. I enjoyed every morning and I am already missing your show. You guys did a fantastic job! I think you were the best, for what it is worth.

I wish you the best of luck in your job search and, now that I found your web page RadioEarth, I will look forward to seeing how things turn out for you. How are Jay and Desiray doing? After two years of listening to your show I feel like I know all three of you.

I thought you would be interested in knowing that a lot of people are disappointed to hear that you are gone. Word is spreading here at work and I have been surprised at how many listeners you had here alone! Of course, the "new format" station has said nothing at all on the air about it. I apparently missed the information in the paper so I called the station to find out when you would be back (thinking you were on vacation). Well, I must not be the only one wondering because the operator became quite annoyed when I asked the question (though I did get an answer but not the one I wanted)!

Thanks again for the great two years here. I wish another station in the area would pick you up but apparently I will not be that lucky.

I like the diary. It's too familiar since I've been unemployed much of the last few months myself. I hate the part of the business that is what happened to you in Cleveland. Your diatribe directed at PDs was on target. Any manager is only as good as their people. They will be most successful if they hire good people and let them do what they do best. If the work doesn't measure up, then they have to leave. What you can't do is hire someone for their talent, then spend all your time trying to make them something else. That's ridiculous (and probably the C, J & D at WLTF show much of the time).

You guys are creative and, as corny and cliche as it sounds, a change of atmosphere will do you good. When you land somewhere you can attack the new gig with an enthusiasm that will make you even better. Good luck with your search.

By the way, how entertaining can mornings in Cleveland be during a world series without the Mike Hargrove quotes every day?

Hi Corey,

You don't know me..but my 5 year old daughter Devvyn and I listened to you, Jay and Desiree every morning on our way to work. Your show gave us many smiles and laughs and helped to get our morning off to a fun start. Devvyn would sing the Cory, Jay and Desiree, LIte Rock 106.5 jingle every morning! She even got as much of a kick out of "The Man Song" as I did. After I downloaded it she had me play it for nearly every person that walked into our house!

At the beginning of the week I realized you guys were not on the radio...and thought maybe the 3 of you had a day off. After the next couple days I thought maybe you were on vacation..but then I realized that the entire program was changed and that they were referring to it as Mix 106...and that the lunchtime program had changed too! I have to say that I am very upset by this...WE MISS YOU!!!! What happened? Both Devvyn and I are bummed...no more fun with the 3 of you in the morning. We had even called in and chatted with you guys a couple times..one of them being when you had the topic "What is the most disgusting food you ever ate?"

I had planned on calling in on Friday to have the 3 of you wish Devvyn a Happy 6th Birthday.....it really stinks that I can't do that now. Oh well..guess life goes on huh? At any rate..I hope the 3 of you do well in wherever life may lead you. Please let me know if you do land a job here in the Cleveland area. Devvyn and I would love to be able to listen to you again. I'm not sure WHAT we'll listen to in the morning now..haha.

Take good care...and please drop me a line if possible to let me know what happened!

Word travels fast!

My condolences on the loss of your job. Howver, isn't it nice to have a family? I read your diary, and it nice to know you have something to come back 'home' to. Kids, house, loving wife. Sometimes getting fired keeps it all in perspective.

I'm glad to hear you used some common sense and didn't move the kids and sell the house, etc.

I've had quite a bit on conversations with my colleagues about what it would take to move... When your single, it doesn't take much... When you have a house, a marriage, a spouse's job, kids and school to disrupt... It would take a lot. It's good that your kids lives didn't get disrupted too much. That's important!

You are obviously a talented guy...caught up in the morning show mayhem that happens when planning an AM-Drive show. We had the same situation happen here when we hired Gary Dickson from Pittsburgh (WWWS). Do it this way, do it that way....try this, try that... And after 2 years he went on to Texas and we went on to another morning man.

You have lots of friends in the online world...People who have come to know your easy going style and even-tempered personality. I'm sure you'll do well.

Enjoy the first coupla weeks....Take time with the kids. Take them to the playground....bering them/pick them up from school...al stuff they will remember. Take your wife out to dinner. (Make love a lot!) Go to Church service if you haven't been inawhile. And keep a legal pad ready to scartch notes. Talk to truisted friends about 'The Game Plan' for the future.

What happened!!!! How can I e-mail 106.5 wltf so I can tell them what I think of them now? Can you tell me how I can contact them? Please!! I found out when I tried to get to your other web page and couldn't get it. So I started searching for you. I WANT YOU GUYS BACK!!!!!

Thanks Linda Barnes
A FAN THAT MISSES YOU ALL!!!!

Corey, I am so sorry to hear that you, Jay and Desiray are no longer at WLTF. I thought your show was great (especially when you originally came and lately), and spent many morning drives in tears from laughter.

Neither I nor my husband will listen to that station anymore! (Even the "new" mix of music is lousy.)

Good luck in the future. You will be missed here.

Sorry to hear about your job situation. But isn't it true that you haven't made it in radio until you've been fired? Just the same, I'm glad my station is an independent. They can't afford to fire me. :-) Good luck...I'll follow your diary closely! Kim
