Dr. Berman is a physicist, senior scientist emeritus, and former head of the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory lighting group. Dr. Jewett is a neurophysiologist and professor emeritus at the University of California Medical Center.  Their experiments found that pupil size, as controlled by the light spectrum in a room rather than the light level, was a factor in visual sharpness under interior lighting. A near perfect correlation was found based on the relative sensitivity of the rods in the eyes to different wavelengths (color) of light with the rods being most sensitive to the blue light spectrum. This sensitivity of the rods to blue light is also known as the scotopic response.

Scotopically enhanced light has been proven to stimulate the eyes photoreceptors increasing visual acuity making this light more comfortable to use while lowering melatonin levels which positively affect energy levels in the body.

DR. LAURENCE D. MARTEL:

Is the author of more than twenty major academic publications with an orientation toward advanced learning methods, including his latest books: The Seven Secrets of Learning Revealed (Cameo Publications) and Real Intelligence (Nightingale Conant). He received his Ph.D. in Philosophy of Education in 1979 from Syracuse University.

His forthcoming book also features the role of light in learning. It is entitled The Teen Brain (Forthcoming: Cameo Publications, 2005). Dr. Martel is Vice President for Research and Development for Full Spectrum Solutions, Inc.

He is also President of the National Academy of Integrative Learning, Inc., which is perhaps the nation's leading developer of research and systems for the study of learning and retention outside the context of traditional education.  

Dr. Martel served as a division head faculty member at Syracuse University for 20 years prior to launching the National Academy of Integrative Learning, Inc.

MICHAEL NEVINS has been both an inventor and manufacturer of innovative, energy-saving products for consumers at home, in schools and in industry.  His inquiring and inventive mind has emerged from a long career of study with his father in the broad construction industry.  Having designed, engineered and constructed over 400 buildings, including twenty-five solar homes, ninety log homes, two commercial buildings and four churches, Michael‚s passion for innovative design took him from the experience as a design-build general contractor to product invention and design in the energy-saving industry.
