Deficit Spending: "The shabby secret of the welfare statists" -Alan Greenspan

“The man-made disaster we are now witnessing in New Orleans did not happen over four days in late August and early September. It happened over the past four decades. Hurricane Katrina merely exposed it to public view. The man-made disaster is the welfare state,” said financial analyst Craig Smith, CEO of Swiss America.

During your Talk Show interview, Craig Smith would address what he considers to be an absolutely absurd comment made by New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin: "The city is bankrupt ... We have no money.”

Craig Smith’s response was, "If Mayor Nagin were running a corporation, he'd have been replaced in a New York second for spouting such nonsense. The city of New Orleans still has plenty of assets; they are not bankrupt’ they just have a cash flow problem. I see Ray Nagin is the perfect poster boy for liberal Democratic creed: ‘Welfare is the job of the Federal Government who is ultimately responsible to provide all with cradle-to-grave food, clothing and shelter – especially in a disaster.’"
