Sideline Tips for Katie Holmes from a Real-life Soccer Mom
A pregnant Katie Holmes attended her first children's soccer game this weekend, probably as research for when her child plays the sport someday. But can the movie star become a soccer mom?
Jen Singer, a boys' soccer coach and the creator of www.MommaSaid.net, a Forbes Best of the Web community for at-home mothers, has a few tips for the celebrity soccer mom-to-be that will help her bypass the learning curve of kiddie soccer.
Jen's soccer mom tips for Katie Holmes:
--- Save the snacks for after the game. "The average soccer game requires four miles of running," says Singer. "A belly full of Cheetos at halftime means 45 minutes of stomach churning and a visit to the pediatrician after the final whistle blows."
--- Don't just cheer for your offspring: "Nobody likes a soccer mom who cheers only for her own kid," says Singer. "Root for everyone or keep quiet. Unless, of course, your child's name is Jake or Emily, then go ahead and shout out, because there are at least four of those on every kids' soccer team."
--- Buy four pairs of soccer socks per child: "You'll be lucky if you can find at least one clean pair and your kid's soccer jersey on game day," says Singer. "The rest will probably be stuffed in a Darth Vader helmet behind the hamper."
